Bluecoats Sports is pleased to support two of its long standing members, Helen and Graham Lawrence, as they undertake a Sahara Trek in aid of St. Catherine’s Hospice Full Circle appeal.
The Trek Challenge
Travelling to Marrakesh on 2nd April 2020 Helen and Graham will cross the Atlas Mountains by coach, before setting off on foot across the Sahara on 3rd April. The couple will trek for three days supported by Berber guides and Camels before returning to Marrakech on the 6th April.
Helen and Graham will spend the days trekking across ancient dried up riverbeds, sand dunes and vast sun-baked plains. Camping each night under the open skies and stunning stars, and eating traditional Berber cuisine.
This is so not glamping; with no shower facilities and basic toilets it will be a challenge. On average they will walk 10-12 miles each day, a lot of which will be on sand dunes so it will feel more like 20 miles per day.
With extremes in temperature between day and night, this trek will be like nothing they have ever done before. That’s the whole point; doing something different and out of their comfort zone.
The Motivation
St. Catherine’s Hospice cares for local people and their families in Surrey and Sussex with life limiting illnesses.
The St. Catherine’s Hospice Full Circle Appeal is hoping to raise £6 million to enable them to expand their services by building a new hospice at Pease Pottage.
Helen and Grahams target is to raise £4,040 between them towards this great cause.
How Can You Get Involved?
We are hosting a Spinathon on Saturday 28th September as part of our Fitness Festival Weekend to help us collect donations. Two spin bikes will be located in the foyer and we are asking members to volunteer for one 20-minute spin slot (or more if you want) throughout the morning.
Both Graham and Helen will be here so please pop by and show your support for the volunteer spinners and to donate towards the target of £4,040.
If you can’t volunteer to be part of the Spinathon and won’t be at the club on Saturday 28th September you can still show your support by donating on their Justgiving page.
