Are you ready for summer?

It’s June and summer is here!  If you think you’ve missed the boat to get in shape it’s not too late!
Here are some top tips to tone up, lose a few pounds and get beach ready.

Eat your greens

What you put in your body is just as important as exercise for staying fit and healthy.  Eat plenty of fruit and veg; the more colourful the better.  Stay clear of the top ‘fatty’ culprits which include ice cream, cake, pizza and chips.

Water is life

Your mum was right; water is good for you.   If you want that killer body – make water your new best friend.  The NHS recommends drinking 7-8 glasses a day.  It sounds like a lot, and it is, but start off slow.  Carry a bottle with you everywhere you go.

We are sorry to say that wine does not count towards your 8 glasses a day.  Alcohol has lots of calories and can have a negative effect on your fitness regime.  So if you are serious about slimming down say bye bye to that glass of rose.

Get enough zzzzzz

Yes, believe it or not, sleep deprivation hurts your chances of losing weight.  It’s tough to motivate yourself to exercise or eat well when you are tired so aim for 7-9 hours of sleep.  Sleep.org states that a good workout can help you get a great shut-eye.

Now it’s time for the burn!

Get out there and burn some calories.  The NHS recommends adults should aim for up to 150 minutes of exercise a week – that’s 30 minutes of exercise a day over 5 days.  The goal is to get your heart rate up so it burns that extra energy.  Build it into your daily routine.  Take small steps to get you there, literally, take the stairs, park further from your destination and get some steps in.  Wear a pedometer or use our app My Wellness if that motivates you.  Whatever you choose to do just get out there.  Even if it’s a 15-minute walk every day.  Every little bit helps.

We can help!

Keep at it

Researchers say that it takes on average 66 days to create a habit.  So cut yourself some slack if you fall off the wagon for a day or two.  The important thing is to keep at it.
