Which Les Mills class should I choose?
When deciding which Les Mills class to take, it helps to understand what each one offers.
- Body Pump is a barbell-based resistance and weight training class. You’ll perform exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls to work all major muscle groups.
- Body Combat is the cardio kickboxing option. You’ll punch and kick your way through a martial arts-inspired workout that burns calories and leaves you feeling empowered.
- Body Balance incorporates yoga, Pilates and tai chi for improved flexibility, balance and mental focus.
Choose Body Pump if you enjoy strength training with weights. The attention to form and full-body approach make it an efficient, low-impact workout. Take BodyCombat classes when you want a high-energy cardio blast to relieve stress and get your heart rate up. If you’re looking for something more restorative that also improves mobility, go with BodyBalance. Of course, you can’t go wrong mixing up all three Les Mills classes to get a well-rounded fitness routine. The motivational atmosphere and music make each class fun and effective at boosting fitness.
Which Les Mills class burns the most calories?
Body Combat is likely the best Les Mills class for you if your main goal is to burn calories. This high-energy, cardio kickboxing workout can burn upwards of 800 calories per hour. You’ll be nonstop punching, kicking, and moving through explosive routines set to motivating music. The fast transitions between martial arts-inspired combos keep your heart rate elevated the entire time.
Body Pump and BodyBalance classes will burn fewer calories per class, around 500-600 calories on average. Body Pump uses light weights and high reps to shape and strengthen all major muscle groups. Lifting weights revs up your metabolism, leading to more calories burned during and after your workout. Body Balance blends yoga, Pilates and tai chi to build core strength while improving flexibility. The focus is more on control, breathing and stability than cardio.
While Body Combat is your best bet for maximum calorie burn, mixing up all three Les Mills classes can help you see faster results.
Are Les Mills classes effective?
With their motivating music, group atmosphere and research-backed programs, Les Mills classes can be highly effective for improving fitness.
Body Pump builds strength and lean muscle mass when done 2-3 times per week; Body Combat has proven effective for boosting cardio endurance, agility and coordination, and Body Balance is effective for building core strength, flexibility and balance.
While each Les Mills class targets different fitness goals, combining them can be extremely effective for results. Mixing up all Les Mills formats is an efficient, fun way to boost cardiovascular health, strength, endurance and more.
