The fourteenth year of the annual Mel’s Milers 10k running race will take place on Sunday 3rd April 2016. With entries limited to around 300 runners, this race has a competitive yet friendly atmosphere and benefits from its idylic countryside setting which starts and finishes in the Avenue and Quadrangle of Christ’s Hospital School which moved to the site in 1902 and dates back to London in 1552.
The race is run on mixed terrain which is mostly off-road, taking in a lap of the magnificent school grounds before heading off to Southwater along the Downs Link, through the Country Park, and back along the Downs Link. In dry conditions, being mainly flat, this can be a fast course and is also an ideal first-time race for runners with enthusiastic marshals to cheer you on!
Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd men’s and ladies, as well as age category awards. This year, to encourage a greater number of younger runners the entry age has been lowered to 15, and additional prizes will be awarded to the first under 18 male and female runners. All finishers receive a medal.
Each year a donation is made to a charity from the proceeds of the race. Mel’s Milers Jogging Club have nominated Macmillan and the Sussex Cancer Fund as their charity projects for 2016. Funds raised from the 10k and throughout the year will be ear-marked for the development of a new cancer support centre in Sussex being created jointly by these two charities to provide holistic care for those affected by cancer.
Entries are open online via Runners World.
We hope to see you there!
